DETROIT, Sept. 16, 2022 – Six generations of Ford Mustangs have ended their cross-country trek from Tacoma, Wash., to Detroit, bringing the “pony cars” back to their roots as part of “The Drive Home” organized by America’s Automotive Trust and the North American International Auto Show (aka Detroit Auto Show). The two announced today “The Drive Home” will include a rare opportunity for Detroit Auto Show and Cars & Community visitors to jump in the passenger seat and “Take-A-Spin” in one of these vintage Mustangs on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The Take-A-Spin experience will travel between the Detroit Auto Show at Huntington Place and DTE – ELECTRIFIED in Beacon Park. The DTE Garage of the Future and OEM EVs will be on display in conjunction with the Sept. 18 Detroit Concours d’Elegance at the Detroit Institute of Arts. The Sept. 17 Cars & Community family event is part of the Concours weekend and will be held at Comerica Park in Parking Lots 1 and 2.
Ticketed Detroit Auto Show and Cars & Community attendees are invited to participate in Take-A-Spin and experience history in motion free of charge. The auto show queue will be located at the corner of Washington and Congress Avenues, and the Beacon Park queue will be situated on First Street. Both will run from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Participants must show an auto show and/or Cars & Community ticket to board the vehicles. Rides will be given to guests that meet the height requirement (44’’ or 3’6”) and do not require a child car seat or booster seat. Children under 16 need an adult present to participate.
The six vintage Mustangs began their caravan to Detroit from the LeMay – America’s Car Museum in Tacoma on Sept. 6 with stops along the way across nine states. The vehicles will be featured in the Take-A-Spin experience on Sept. 17, then make their way to Huntington Place where they will be on display for auto show visitors to enjoy throughout the Public Show.
