The Motor City gets moving on Saturday, January 17, 2026, as the Detroit Auto Show 5K begins at 9 a.m. along the Riverfront — bringing runners, walkers, and families together for a morning along the Detroit Riverfront to kick off the first weekend of the 2026 Auto Show.
The course starts and finishes near Huntington Place — home of the Detroit Auto Show — and takes participants on a scenic stretch by the water. Whether you’re chasing a personal best, getting in some easy miles with friends, or strolling with the kids, the 5K is designed for all paces and ages.
Hosted in partnership with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the Detroit Auto Show, and the Friends of the Outdoor Adventure Center, the run highlights the city’s active spirit. Proceeds from the event will support new exhibits at the Outdoor Adventure Center.
“Adding the 5K to Auto Show week is a natural fit,” said Detroit Auto Show Chairman, Todd Szott. “It’s a chance to get outside, move, and enjoy the city together — all while supporting a space that inspires people to explore nature and stay active.”

Registration is open now, with limited spots available. Participants can also purchase discounted tickets (25% off) to the Detroit Auto Show Public Days. The 5K is a chance to be part of the city’s biggest mobility celebration — on your own two feet before the wheels hit the show floor.
